Hi fellow shipmates;
I hope you all enjoyed our last reunion and trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I can tell you, my wife, Edie and I did.
For those of you who did not attend, we toured the Patriot's Point Naval and Maritime Museum, where we were able to go aboard the USS Yorktown and other ships, including a diesel class submarine. From there we took a boat to the historic Fort Sumnter. We finished the day by returning to our hotel where we hosted a Southern Style Barbecue. The next day we toured the Citadel and the historic downtown district of Charleston, along with spending some time and our money in the historic Market Street area. We concluded the day with our annual USS Caloosahatchee Banquet, where we held our annual meeting and elected new officers.
Your officers are:
Richard Frank - President
Ed Gable - Vice President
Paul Sear - Treasurer
Mark Bienz - Secretary
On behalf of the entire USS Calooshatchee Reunion Association, "Brava Zulu" and "Job Well Done" to Paul and Susan Scheerer, for their untiring dedication to the CALOOS. Paul as Secretary/Treasurer for many years, and Susan for her organizational skills to make things happen and to bring us all together.
Now, I would like to tell you about the 2008 USS Caloosahatchee Reunion we have planned for Jacksonville, Florida.

I am very excited about this hotel and its location; please go to its website I provided above.

NOTE: YOU MUST MAKE YOUR OWN RESERVATIONS, SO PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY!
Our Plan of the Day (POD) for each day is as follows:
Liberty Call and you are on your own. I encourage you to take a Water Taxi or Skyway ride to the other side of downtown where you can buy "stuff" and see the local area.
Our Hospitality Room will be Open, so have a cold one on the CALOOS and get reacquainted or acquainted with friends/crew that you have not met yet. Please bring your memorabilia; we will be able to scan your pictures allowing them to be shared. This event stretches into the early hours and we provide the mid-rats and refreshments.
We will visit the Mayport Naval Base at 1230 by bus where we will tour the base and visit a ship, maybe an AO, followed with a great Luau Party at the Ocean Breeze Club on the base. I think it will be more fun if we try to dress Hawaiian style.
Total cost: $37.00 per person
We have a busy day ahead of us consisting of an all day Motor Coach Tour of Historic St. Augustine Florida, leaving the Hotel at 0900 and returning to the hotel by 1600. Then we will finish the day off with the USS Caloosahatchee Grand Banquet at 1900, which will be held in the hotel. We are still working the menu. Following dinner we will hold our annual meeting and elect officers.
Motor Coach Tour cost: $45.00 per person
Banquet cost: $40.00 per person
I would courage you all to consider coming or staying a day or two early to explore the area further.
Edie and I look forward to seeing you there.
Richard Frank
Shipmates,
I would like to introduce myself to the shipmates of the CALOOS. I am Paul Sears, and I was elected Treasurer at the 2007 USS Caloosahatchee Reunion. My duties include keeping financial records of all transactions of the Association and reporting them to you at the business meeting held every year at our reunion, which I will do at this upcoming reunion. The money we receive in dues enables us to send newsletters like this one. Also, the dues help pay for all of the food and beverages we provide in the Hospitality Room at our reunions.
Which leads me to this; it is that time of year again when we need to collect dues. The first order of business that I would like to discuss is the payment of dues. The dues for this year are $30.00 for full membership and entitles you to be included with, "Shipmates in Good Standing." Shipmates in Good Standing receive all newsletters, an annual updated roster, a shipmate membership card and attendance to the annual reunion. For a fee of $10.00, you become an Associate member, and will be eligible to receive the newsletters, a membership card and notification of the reunions. I would like everyone that wants to join our Association to pay their dues by August 15, 2008.
Checks should be made out to:
U.S.S. Caloosahatchee Reunion Association
Please mail to me at the address provided on the return form.
If you need to contact me for any reason, my cell phone number is 617-438-8465, and my home phone is 508-747-1106. Also, you can email me at Searsreddog@aol.com.
Thank You,
Paul V. Sears
Fellow Shipmates,
I would like to introduce myself as well to the shipmates of the CALOOS, though many of you have already met me. I am Mark Bienz and was elected Secretary at the 2007 USS Caloosahatchee Reunion. I have the responsibility to maintain the Ship's Company Roster, with mailing addresses and contact information.
I will be taking minutes and providing them to you after this years' reunion meeting. While at this years' reunion, I will have copies of the roster to provide you and ask for your help in identifying any corrections, changes or additions that need to be made. Additionally, we are looking to expand or enhance the look and feel of our newsletter, WEB site, etc., and are looking for volunteers to contribute to these efforts.
As a reminder, you must make your own Hotel reservations. All Activity fees will be paid through Paul Sears, our Treasurer.
If you need to contact me for any reason, please call me at (540) 899-2974, or e-mail me at mbienz@aol.com.
Thanks,
Mark
